AI is revolutionizing many fields, and language learning is no different. AI tools with chat features such as ChatGPT have especially large potential to benefit language learners due to their natural language processing capabilities.

One of the best ways to use ChatGPT for language learning is by taking advantage of the voice assistant option available on the ChatGPT mobile app. Cominbing ChatGPT’s ability to respond naturally to any language context and its natural sounding voice, ChatGPT makes an excellent oral English speaking partner. It can also be used to practice improv and conversation skills.

Here’s how to use ChatGPT’s voice assistant feature:

1. Download ChatGPT app on your mobile device (this includes ipads!)

2. Click the microphone on bottom right side of the chat.

3. Start talking to ChatGPT!

To thave a structured conversation, you’ll want to add a few more steps to prompt ChatGPT with what you would like to talk about.

1. Open ChatGPT  on your mobile device

2. Use BASE prompting to tell ChatGPT what you want to talk about (you can learn about BASE prompting in my free resource below) Make sure to tell ChatGPT not to start until you say “go.”

3. Click the microphone sign.

4. Tell ChatGPT to begin

Tip: If you need more time to respond than ChatGPT is giving you, press down on the center of your phone. This allows you to speak and not send your prompt until you lift up.
